On 24 September, HWH welcomed Hobby, CEO of Oscar Charity for Sickle Cell, for an inspiring and informative workshop aimed at raising awareness of Sickle Cell and its impact on individuals, families and communities.
The session brought together 19 attendees, including both staff and residents, for an interactive learning experience. Hobby began by sharing his personal connection to the condition and spoke about the importance of understanding Sickle Cell and the genetic trait. He encouraged everyone to learn more about their own blood type and consider testing for the Sickle Cell trait, highlighting how awareness can help future generations make informed decisions.

Throughout the workshop, attendees took part in quizzes and group activities that explored the history of Sickle Cell and challenged common misconceptions about the condition. The session sparked lively discussions, with residents and staff asking thoughtful questions and sharing their reflections.
Hobby also discussed the realities faced by people living with Sickle Cell, including painful crises that can affect multiple organs and have a significant impact on daily life. He highlighted the need for greater awareness and understanding of the condition, which affects people from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds around the world.

The workshop was both educational and engaging, helping attendees develop a deeper understanding of Sickle Cell while encouraging important conversations about health, wellbeing and community awareness. We would like to thank Hobby and Oscar Charity for Sickle Cell for delivering such a valuable session and helping to increase awareness of this important health issue.
