Aston Residents Take Part in Sexual Health and Healthy Relationships Workshops

Residents living at YMCA Heart of England’s accommodation in Aston recently took part in a series of interactive workshops focused on sexual health, wellbeing and healthy relationships.

The sessions were delivered in partnership with Umbrella, a specialist sexual health service, following discussions between the organisation and YMCA Heart of England to provide residents with expert advice and support on important health and wellbeing topics.

To create a comfortable environment for discussion, separate workshops were held for women and men. The women’s session took place on the 23rd of June, followed by a men’s session on the 30th of July. Together, the workshops welcomed 21 residents, including 16 women and five men.

Throughout the sessions, residents learned about sexual health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), testing and available support services. Umbrella also provided anonymous testing kits, helping attendees access further support if needed.

A particularly impactful part of the workshops focused on healthy relationships. Through videos, open discussions and group activities, residents explored the qualities that contribute to positive, respectful relationships. One activity encouraged participants to identify the characteristics they value most in a partner, prompting thoughtful conversations, shared experiences and plenty of laughter along the way.

The workshops were highly engaging, with residents actively participating, asking questions and sharing their perspectives. The healthy relationships discussions resonated strongly with attendees and helped encourage meaningful conversations around wellbeing, confidence and self-respect.

Following the success of the sessions, YMCA Heart of England and Umbrella are keen to explore opportunities to work together again in the future, continuing to provide residents with access to valuable health and wellbeing education.
